• As a class, brainstorm what the word "law" means. Develop a shared understanding and definition.

What is Digital Law?

• Digital Law can be defined as the electronic responsibility for actions and deeds which are either ethical or unethical. Digital responsibility deals with the ethics of technology. Unethical use manifests itself in form of theft and / or crime. Ethical use manifests itself in the form of abiding by the laws of society.

I'm sure you've all seen this ad on tv or in the preview section of dvds. What else do you know about copyright law.

There are repercussions for people who break (infringe) on copyright law.

1. How do you feel about sharing files with others? Should it be legal to make and share copies of something that you have purchased?
2. Imagine you were a musician whose primary source of income was made through record sales. How would you feel then?

Here are some suggestions for acting responsibly, ethically and legally while using the internet

• Buy your music, whether through iTunes or by buying from a music shop
• Never post inappropriate images on the internet
• Don't pirate or download movies illegally
• Only open emails from trusted sources
• Don't give out private information to anyone on the internet
• Ensure you have plans to protect your computer from virues etc

3. Conference with teacher
